Memories of a landscape
19-Untitled (landscape) by Zehra Khan
19-Untitled (landscape)

I think of myself as someone who does not belong to any one country -- I am American and Pakistani, and I grew up in Indonesia, France and Switzerland until Lexington became my home in 1994. A graduate of Lexington High School )Class 0f 2000), I received my Bachelor's degree from Skidmore College, and am currently in a Masters painting program at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, in correlation with the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center.

'Inspired by the imperfect process of working from memory, I venture into abstraction. Each painting is of a moment of recognition when I was surrounded and immersed in a landscape.

What I may recollect best is the knock of rain against the ocean, or feeling lost in the canyons of a mountain. Without reference images, I try to translate these split and hazy memories to paint."
