Kids entering grades 3-6 (& their parents) are invited to GO GREEN - and get to know your farmers! Meet Lori from Kids Cooking Green, and Ruth Lynn from Cary Library at the Lexington Farmers Market Managers Tent for some green fun!
Did you know that farmer Rita of the HerbFarmacy has 30,000 ladybugs sleeping in her fridge at home! Or that some farmers do their greenhouse weeding with the help of a PIG! Come hear more, first hand from the farmers, and then tour the market, and buy yourself a healthy local snack with a complimentary $2 LFM gift coupon!

Take a tour of Lexington’s first public building that is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver-certified. See the features that earned this rating and learn how they are helping the environment. Meet our tour guide and Ruth Lynn from Cary Library at the main entrance of the new Samuel Hadley Public Services Building.

Get a close-up look at your favorite vehicles from Lexington’s Department of Public Works, Police Department, Fire Department, and LEXPRESS, and meet the people who drive them!

TOE JAM PUPPET BAND GOES GREEN

From creeping bugs to reaching trees, from running rivers to great big oceans, from mountains big and clouds so high, 'Toe Jam' has fun with everything under the sun. You are invited to share in Toe Jam's interactive songs, puppets, and activities. TOM & VINNY's high energy nonsense helps remind us what a great place this is to live and why we should take care of our planet. With songs like "Do the Can Can," children will learn about the importance of recycling and how everyone can help keep the Earth clean.

LIBRARY TREASURE HUNT!

Find hidden treasure at the Library! We will divide into teams and follow the clues. It will be harder than you think! One first prize will be awarded, but everyone will get to bring home some treasure.

GoGREEN & MAKE A SCENE

Through mime and comic stories, Robert Rivest explores how awesome it is to live on planet Earth! Includes fun audience participation pieces that celebrate nature and the environment, plus easy ways to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Everyone gets to laugh, make a scene, and learn ways to live Green!

6th ANNUAL FAMILY ICE CREAM SOCIAL
  • All ages
  • MONDAY: Aug 30 - 3:00-4:00 p.m.
  • ON THE LAWN ACROSS CLARKE STREET FROM THE LIBRARY
  • No registration necessary.
All Summer Reading participants are invited to our sixth annual Ice Cream Social, with ice cream from Rancatore’s, to wrap up the 2010 Summer Reading Program, “Go Green @ Cary Library.” (In case of rain, the event will be held in the Library’s Meeting Room.)

The 2010 Children's Summer Reading Program has been generously sponsored by the Friends of Cary Memorial Library. The state-wide theme, "Go Green @ Your Library," is supported by the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
