Jon Kabat-Zinn will present in layperson terms some of the latest scientific and medical findings associated with MBSR -- mindfulness-based stress reduction -- the program that he pioneered at the UMass Medical Center. He will introduce the audience to the actual cultivation of mindfulness in various ways in daily life to reduce stress, live more effectively with chronic pain, and deal with the challenges of aging and illness.
Jon Kabat-Zinn is a bestselling author whose books include Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness (1990), Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life (1994) and Coming to our Senses: Healing Ourselves and the World through Mindfulness (2005).
His most recent books are Mindfulness for Beginners: Reclaiming the Present Moment and Your Life, and The Mind’s Own Physician: A Scientific Dialogue with the Dalai Lama on the Healing Power of Meditation.
Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., is internationally known for his work as a scientist, writer, and meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society. He is Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was founding executive director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society, and founder and director of its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic.
