GOT eAUDIOBOOKS?
Cary Memorial Library is happy to announce a new service -- downloadable audiobooks from Recorded Books and NetLibrary!
This new service is offered free by Cary Memorial Library. People who might find this service valuable include: those in bookgroups, students, commuters, ESL students, and anyone wanting to learn a new language.
Our subscription includes over 1,200 adult audiobook titles, including bestsellers such as David McCullough’s 1776 and Alexander McCall Smith’s The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, and classics such as Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, and the award-winning Pimsleur language series. Also included are over 120 Young Adult and Children's titles. About 30 new adult titles and 10 new Young Adult and Children's titles are added monthly.
WHAT ARE eAUDIOBOOKS?
Downloadable Audiobooks from NetLibrary/Recorded Books are digital versions of audiobooks, identical in content to the Recorded Books audiotapes and CDs available on library shelves. These eAudiobooks can be played on any device --PC, laptop, or MP3 player-- that includes Windows Media Player version 9.0 or higher. MP3 players must be WMA/DRM compatible. For a listing of recommended players, link here Please note: These audiobooks cannot be played on Macs or downloaded to iPods at this time. Apple products do not support the necessary licenses or the required Digital Rights Management protection.
WHY eAUDIOBOOKS?
- eAudiobooks are accessible from any PC 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Unlimited copies of all titles are available.
- No more overdue fines! Titles are automatically "returned" after 21 days.
- You can check out up to ten titles at one time.
- Downloading can be done with either dial-up or high-speed connection, although a high-speed connection is more efficient.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO BORROW eAUDIOBOOKS?
Anyone who lives or works in the town of Lexington is eligible to register. If you are a Lexington resident you may register online from home. If you work in Lexington you must come to the library and register at the Reference or Children's desk.

Once you are registered:
- Once you have been registered, your free account can be accessed online at www.netlibrary.com.
- Your username is your library card number.
- You will create your own password.

USING YOUR eAUDIOBOOK ACCOUNT:
To Download to a PC or laptop:

- Go to www.netlibrary.com/recordedbooks/.
- Log in using your username and password.
- Use the basic or advanced search to find a title.
- Click on "Download this Audiobook."
- Click on "Checkout and Download Radio Quality" if you are going to listen from only a PC or laptop.
- Click on "Checkout and Download CD Quality" if you are going to transfer the file to an MP3 player.
- Once transfer begins, save the file to an appropriate folder on your computer.
- After the transfer is complete, open the file. A prompt will appear that will request that you log in once more to NetLibrary. This step is vital because you must acquire the license before listening to the audiobook or transferring it to an MP3 player.

| To Transfer download to a portable device using Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher: |
Please note that your device must be WMA-DRM compatible.
- Open Windows Media player.
- Plug your player into a USB port on your computer.
- Locate the file on your personal computer; right-click on the file and select "Add to Sync List."
- In Media Player, select "File" ->"CDs and Devices"->"Synchronize."
- Choose the title in the left window and choose the destination player in the right window.
- Click on "Start Sync."
- Once the transfer is complete, remove your player from the USB port.

| To Renew an Audiobook: |
Audiobooks are "loaned" for 21 days with a 21-day renewal.
- Go to www.netlibrary.com/recorded books/.
- Log in to your account.
- Click on "My Checked Out Items" in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select the title that you wish to renew by clicking on "Downloaded Audiobooks."
- Select "Renew Your Checkout" for 21 days.

| To Delete an Audiobook: |
- Find the audiobook file on your PC, laptop, or MP3 player.
- Delete the file in your customary manner.
