Description
|
| William A. Tower residence, 1895.
"Colonel Tower came to Lexington in 1855 and shortly after built this house. He was one of the first of the wealthy men to come to this town and was president or director of a number of banks, railroads and similar institutions. He never occupied an important position in this town nor did he mingle with the natives. His proposal in 1887 to change the set-up of Cary Library - accompanied by a generous gift - was met by a curt refusal from the citizens and thereafter he took but little part in town affairs. This picture is for record as the house was torn down in 1939."
