Merriam House, Winthrop Road, 1884.
"This old house stood at the corner of Winthrop Road on what would be Mr. O'Connell's front lawn. Here, at the time of the Battle, lived Benjamin Merriam and his wife Ginger. Their home was looted by British troops. Around Civil War times Joel Viles lived here farming the back land now Winthrop Road. Joel liked to holler and used to go up in the orchard and just practice for his own amusement. The picture was taken in 1884. The house is now on Woburn Street, first across the tracks on the East side." |
