Description
East Lexington Railroad Station, 1894. "East Lexington Railroad Station, taken 1894. The Engineer is Fred Judkins. In the carriage is Mrs. Lucius A. Austin, next is Mr. Austin when he was Station Agent. Then Edward Hart, Conductor of the train, who is probably figuring that it is up to the Engineer to make up this lost time. Then Willie O'Hara. In the team are Augustus Childs and his son Carlton. Now the thing to notice in the picture is the neatness of the grounds and the nice flower-bed in the centre. There was a time when there were many trains and many people rode on them. The Management of the Road encouraged the Station Agents to make their grounds attractive, awarding prizes for the best. East Lexington residents took pride in their Station and some actually contributed time and materials to help beautify the surroundings. Do you like the way the grounds around our station look today?"
