| Group of Lexington citizens, 1894. "Here is a group of prominent citizens of Lexington as they looked in 1894. In the upper left-hand corner, the Honorable (to be) Edward C. Stone. Next, in back, J. Herbert Mead - we will always remember him as an author, for when in high school called upon to read to the school his weekly composition, he rose and gravely read "Compositions are hard and tough, I've written four lines and that's enough." The scene which followed was equally interesting but I draw the curtain. Next, in back is Bert Jackson. And at extreme right, William H. Ballard. The young lady at left is Marion Woodward now Mrs. Phillip Perry. Beside her Miss Annie Muzzey. Next to her, near center, Miss Lilla Vickery. At her side is Miss Bertha Redman now Mrs. Howard Nichols. Next is Lester T. Redman, at his side Miss Clara McIntyre, and at the lower right-hand corner Miss Grace P. French - known to every graduate of our high school for - oh - many years. " |
