| Description |
John Brown.
"Born a slave in 1838. Ran away and joined the Union Navy in 1862. At the end of the war, when mustered out, he had practically nothing but a thin suit of work clothes. He wandered out from Boston. Knew no one or where to go. Stopped at the house of Adam Peters on East Street, Lexington, met a friendly welcome and remained there. Was an honored member of the Hancock Church for many years. His courtly bow and kindly manner will always be remembered."
(Cataloger's note: See Charles Hudson's History of Lexington, 1913 ed., Vol. I, p. 450.) |
