| Description |
George O. Smith.
"George O. Smith was born in East Lexington in 1832. One of our finest citizens - quiet, refined and unobtrusive. Carried on a retail cigar business in Boston and by his own efforts accumulated a small fortune. He never married but lived with his sister.
He should be always remembered by everyone in the Town for his interest in the welfare of the citizens. He left many bequests, notably to the Historical Society, and especially for the creation of the fund for the education of Lexington boys."
(Cataloger's note: See Charles Hudson's History of Lexington, 1913 ed., Vol. I index; Vol. II, p. 653. See also Proceedings of the Lexington Historical Society, Vol. 3, p. 164.) |
