(Note: Attributed to Edwin B. Worthen, Sr., according to handwritten note on back of maps:
"A very brief word about these three maps of Lexington 1775, done in India ink on detail paper.
Although they say Lexington Historical Society at the bottom, these maps were never in the possession of the Society; the Society's name is on them because of my father's own modesty and because of his very close association (in the minds of everyone) with the Society.
The material and original maps were drawn by my father, Edwin B. Worthen, a great many years ago (in the 1930s?). These ink drawings of them were done, I believe, by the ever-cooperative Town Engineer's office - either voluntarily or at my father's expense.
The point I am making here is that there may be some who, on noting the Historical Society name, will assume that these 3 maps were removed from the archives of the Society! Such is not the case.
-- Edwin B. Worthen, Jr. ") |
