Five photos, views along Bedford Street at Massachusetts Avenue before the widening of Bedford Street, October 1927. Notes on verso: 1. "Before widening of Bedford Street. Taken between Buckman and the Minute-Man. To the extreme right of the Bank Building can be seen (behind trees) the old Smith, Britton, etc. wood buildings, before torn down for the Arcade, part on left being remodeled. Gable end and flag pole just visible behind the hip roof or present Smith's (now brick & stucco front) is the top of the Paul Revere Tavern, where the Trust Company building is." 2. "Looking up Bedford Street, toward Masonic Temple, and Hancock Street." 3. "[Taken] about from Library, toward Bedford Street and Buckman Tavern." 4. "Looking up Bedford Street. Trees marked with white were removed when the sidewalk & lawn were cut back." 5. "Taken from [Massachusetts] Avenue (opposite & below Meriam Street) toward Buckman [Tavern] lawn. Trees marked with white notice were cut down." |
