| Description |
Six prints (some are duplicates) of Winning Farm on Lowell Street, no date. Notes on verso indicate that this is also known as the Putnam-Reed house; in another hand, it is also known as the "Whipple or Wheeler Place on east side Lowell Street."
On verso: 1. "Winning Farm, new house." 2. "An early view of the Whipple or Wheeler Place on E. side Lowell St. Known about the time of this photo as the Charles Putnam Place. It belonged, at a much earlier date, to Benjamin Fiske. In front of the stone wall in middle foreground can be seen the line of the original road filled in and graded over by J. Reed Whipple. [continues in another hand] The smaller house in front was moved South across Lowell Street and is now Shagbark Farm. Originally on what is now "Shagbark Farm" was 2 ancient houses long since destroyed." |
