Description
|
| Small trunk-style green leather box, 9 x 12 x 5 in.
Label inside lid: "Nathan Neat nos. 18 & 19 Elm St., Boston. Manufacturer of solid leather, boot-top, Fancy & Common trunks, valises, carpet bags, etc."
Handwritten note by EBW, Jr. 1940: "…a smallish dull green grey leather box; brass studded, with leather handle; paper lined on wood c.1820-1840. For many years this was the only safe the Town had. It was kept in the Treasurer's house, as there was no Town Hall until 1846. Dad [Edwin B. Worthen] rescued it when they cleaned out the vault at the "old" Town Hall (built in the '70s - opposite Waltham St.) when they tore it down."
