Record 39/47 See Catalog Record Objects Return to Exhibit Page Return to Home Page Search This Exhibit Description  Picture frame (empty) made from wooden remnant of the Old Belfry, a wooden structure on a hill overlooking Lexington Common, the bell of which sounded the alarm of April 19, 1775. After the original structure was lost to fire, an exact reproduction was built in 1910 on the Belfry’s original site on Belfry Hill. The frame itself is undated. The plaque is inscribed as follows: "Old Belfry, Lexington Mass., built 1761, from which an alarm was rung on the approach of British troops April 19, 1775. Framed in wood of original structure." This seems to indicate that the frame once held a photograph of the Old Belfry.
