Description
|
George O. Whiting residence, junction of Hancock Street and Adams Street.
"Freeborn F. Raymond (father of Henry) purchased the land from the Francis B. Hayes Estate in 1887. At that time the Raymond family were living about where Caouettes office is in the upper end of Viano block. Mr. Raymond started to build a fine house on his four acres but Mrs. Raymond refused to live so far out in the country. Mr. Raymond then built the house on Clarke Street and sold the four-acre lot to George O. Whiting in 1888. He completed the house. Assessed in 1889 at $12,000. The house burned December 9, 1902 and the present house, much on the same lines as the old, was built immediately."
