Photo folder: TOWN HALL (SECOND, 1871-1928), MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE
Old Town Hall (Second Town Hall), near 1735 Massachusetts Avenue opposite Waltham Street. Administrative center of Town of Lexington that housed the town offices.
There were 3 floors and basement, built with Mansard roof in style of Second Empire. The large space also used for meetings for groups on second floor, Masons had rooms on top floor. Cary Library was housed on the main floor until 1906. Dedicated in 1871.
There is at least one photo to document the building being demolished in 1928. 1stereograph from 1875 shows the building decorated in patriotic manner. 12 photos Exterior, all seasons. At least one interior shot of the assembly hall, 1871.
