Five prints, Old Salem Road from Simonds Tavern (331 Bedford Street) to Grove and Burlington Streets, May 17, 1923. (Old Salem Road no longer exists.) Captions on the backs of the photos: 1. Old Salem Road from Simonds (Bedford Street) Tavern across to Grove Street. View about 1/2 way to hill - looking back between the 2 stone walls toward Bedford Street. 2. Old Salem Road from Simonds Tavern across to Grove Street. View from back of Simonds Tavern -east- toward the hill. 3. Old Salem Road from Simonds Tavern across to Grove Street. View near foot of hill, about where both stone walls begin, looking back toward Bedford Street. 4. Old Salem Road from Simonds Tavern across to Grove Street. View from near top of hill, looking West toward Bedford Street. Road ran along upper side of stone wall. 5. Old Salem Road from Simonds Tavern to Grove Street. View from near top of hill looking west toward Bedford Street. Road along upper side of stone wall. A note enclosed with the photos (evidently written by Edwin B. Worthen, Sr.) provides the following information: I. West - top of hill along wall II. West - where two lines of wall began III. West - about 1/2 way from top of hill to Bedford Street. IV. East from gate back of Simonds (Randall) looking East toward the hill.
