||Invitation to Mr. George Nichols "to be one of seventy-seven Honorary Colonial Members of the Minute Men of Lexington," with envelope postmarked April 16, 1923. Acceptance meant that the member would be expected to donate $1,000 toward a new Minute Men Memorial on the grounds of Buckman Tavern.
Includes note by Edwin B. Worthen, Sr. as follows: "Lexington Minute-Men Memorial, the famous invitation to subscribe $1000, Apr 16 1923 which started the dreadful mess, rare."
(Cataloger's note: the invitation was sent to 77 men, to correspond to the number identified by historian Frank Coburn as participants on the Common on the morning of April 19, 1775.)
