Welcome! Visit the Young Adult Department at Cary Library and find the newest titles in Young Adult fiction and nonfiction, as well as our entire fiction collection, both hardcover and paperback! We also have a special paperback science fiction bookshelf, a brand-new graphic novels shelf and large print versions of some of the best titles!

The young adult collection is designed to meet the recreational and informational needs of adolescents in grades 6-12, to help ease their transition from the children's library to the adult library, to increase their knowledge and enjoyment of reading, to enable them to become discriminating readers, and to develop a pattern of lifetime library use.

The collection includes the best representative titles in all subject areas, notable works of fiction, as well as hardcover and/or paperback editions of popular materials aimed specifically at young adults. The collection reflects the wide range of adolescent reading interests and their varying levels of maturity. Given this disparity, some young adult titles will be duplicates of items in both the children's library and the adult library.

Teen visitors are encouraged to talk to the Young Adult librarian for reading suggestions and homework help. Librarians in the nearby Children's area and upstairs in the Adult Reference also welcome your questions.
