Letter from the Director: Construction Delays

Article Date
September 2, 2025

Dear Cary Library Community,

I am writing to provide an update on the library’s lower level construction project. While our original timeline anticipated completion of the renovations in September, some unforeseen issues with the building had to be mitigated before work could continue. This has extended the timeline and we are now looking to reopen the lower level closer to the end of this year although an exact date is still TBD.

We know how important this space is to our community and appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we navigate this delay. In the meantime, please note:

  • Fall programs for children will continue to be offered at the Cary Memorial Building, LexFarm, and virtually. Please check our calendar for dates and times.
  • Programs for adults and teens will continue at various offsite locations.
  • Sunday hours (1:00–5:00 PM) will resume on September 7, 2025.
  • Please consider visiting neighboring Minuteman Libraries (especially if you are looking for space for children to read and play) until we can meet your library needs more completely.

We look forward to celebrating the reopening with you! I will continue to keep you informed throughout the fall. I’d like to thank the library’s dedicated and flexible staff, as well as our partners in the Public Facilities Department, who have managed this complex project with care while helping us maintain library services.

As always, please check our Hours webpage for any changes and closures.

If you have questions, please reach out to me at kstembridge@lexingtonma.gov or 781-698-4401.

Best regards,

Koren Stembridge

Library Director
