ACTIVITIES

Challenge Zone - Hallway (10:00 am – 3:00 pm)
Test your problem solving abilities in the LEGO® Challenge Zone.

Coloring Table - Children’s Room
Help us color in some large LEGO® pictures! Draw yourself as a LEGO® Minifig! Coloring sheets and other activities will also be available.

Family Build - Large Meeting Room (opens at 10:00 am)
Explore your creativity with the Library’s LEGO® bricks. Work alone or with someone else. What will you create?

Family Build (DUPLO®) - Children’s Room Play Area 
Explore your creativity with the Library’s DUPLO® bricks. Work alone or with someone else. What will you create?

Race Car Run - Large Meeting Room (noon – 2:00 pm)
Build a race car and run it down the ramp. How far does it travel off the end?
Make a few adjustments. Does it go further?

Stop-motion Animation - Large Meeting Room (10:00 am - 12:00 pm)
Try your hand at stop-motion animation using LEGO® people & bricks. Finished movies will be uploaded to our YouTube Channel.

LEGO® WeDo® 2.0 - Large Meeting Room (12:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Build, code, and learn with LEGO® WeDo® 2.0.

See the amazing creations entered in the Building Contest and vote for your favorite,enjoy the Reading Corner, marvel at displays of LEGO® creations, and build with your family in the Family Build area.

11:30 am - Award Presentation - Large Meeting Room
The winners of the Building Contest will be announced, and prizes awarded.

No one is too old for LEGO®! Hear from a panel of adults who work with or use LEGO® in their daily lives.

Can you beat the Library Bot? Using the Library's bricks and Mindstorm® motors, customize and program a Sumo Bot to take on the Library Bot.

Attendance is limited. Sign up online beginning Monday, January 13, at 7:00 pm. Phone reservations begin at 7:30 pm.

Tower Building Workshop - grades K-1/2-3 - Storytime Room
Children are encouraged to problem-solve and build creatively while constructing a tower.

Building Contest Rules

CONTEST RULES

  • Create an original design; do not use commercial kits/instructions.
  • Construction must be at least 90% bricks (LEGO® or other similar bricks). No more than 10% may be other materials (fabric, string, paper, etc).
  • Build at home, using your own bricks.
  • Tell the story of your creation. On the entry form, write a paragraph about your creation.
  • Enter by yourself and/or as part of a group.
  • ONE creation per individual or team.
  • Size: no larger than 10x10 inches at the base (32x32 studs).

Drop off: Entries must be delivered to the Cary Library Children’s Room on Thursday, January 23 from 2:00 - 8:30 pm. No entries will be accepted after Thursday, January 23. Your creation should be ready to display, with no loose parts. Please bring a completed entry form with your creation. Entry forms are available at the Children’s Desk.

Pick up: Saturday, January 25 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm. When you drop off your creation you will be given a claim slip. Please bring this slip with you to pick up your creation. If you are unable to pick up your creation the day of Brickmania, please let us know ahead of time.

ENTRY CATEGORIES

  • Team: a group of 2 or 3 kids (18 and under)
  • Family: a group of 2 or 3 people, including at least one adult (over 18) and at least one kid
  • Individual: ages 5-8
  • Individual: ages 9-13

JUDGING
A panel of three judges will select one winner in each category. A Viewers’ Choice prize (voted on by visitors and participants during Brickmania) will also be awarded.

  • Building skill based on participant’s age.
  • Creativity and originality, in both your building skills and your writing.
  • Presentation.

All possible care will be taken in the handling of entries. Participants accept that Cary Library is not responsible for loss of, or damage to, any entry. 

By entering the contest, all participants and their legal guardians agree to release the contest sponsors and Cary Library of all liability that could result from participating in the contest, attending the contest, or the awarding of contest prizes.

PHOTOGRAPHY
The contest and all participants may be photographed and videotaped. By submitting an entry into this contest, participants and their legal guardians hereby grant permission to Cary Library to use any photographs (names not included) of the participant or the participant's submitted model for any promotional use.

By submitting an entry form and creation into this contest, participants and their legal guardians agree to these official rules and regulations and decisions of the judges.
